Northern Kabul, Afghanistan, 2001
This Afghan girl’s face was burned by an American bomb a month or so after September 11th, but her eyes shine with life.
I photographed her because despite what she has encountered in her young life, she still radiates optimism. Those same eyes that saw destruction and knew such pain hold a look of possibility.
What did you and I get pissed off about today? It probably doesn’t compare to her daily challenges.
I hope that by meeting this girl, you will have more perspective on the challenges you face in your own life and, as a result, you will be more thankful and ready to find ways to make a difference in the lives of others.
Maybe you will, maybe you won’t, but maybe you will.
